Process Improvement

Process Engineering Pays Off

  • Process engineering, even of limited scope, can improve effectiveness and efficiency, while capturing cost avoidance / cost reduction.
  • Introducing s-o-m-e level of formal process, tailored to project needs, can establish an environment in which work is performed correctly the first time through, instead of an ad hoc approach in which much work must be "done over."
  • The "dot com bust" is a testament to billions of dollars (that's billions with a 'b') lost as a result of a lack of established process and a lack of process discipline. (Been there, seen that.)

Selected Topic: Agile Development Process

  • "Heavyweight" process may be required for safety-critical / life-critical / mission-critical projects, but most software projects don't need the bureaucracy.
  • Considering software process modernization? Then consider one of the Agile development methodologies.
